September 10, 2020
In all my many visits to Las Vegas, I had never had the opportunity to stay at any of the downtown hotels and casinos. During my most recent trip in September of 2020, I was finally able to change that! I had a three-night stay at Plaza Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas.
Luxe King Room
I stayed in a Luxe King Room on the 18th floor of the North Tower. The North Tower is the most recently renovated tower and the Luxe rooms are some of the newest. The room was a nice size at 325 square feet, with a very comfortable king-sized bed and an assortment of pillows. I am very picky with my pillows, so much that I pack my own travel pillow. However, I found these to be super comfortable, and I slept great all three nights. The A/C unit was an external unit under the window. This did get a bit loud at times, but it did not interrupt my sleep! The carpet that you usually see in older hotel rooms was gone and replaced by laminate wood flooring with an area rug under the bed.
Bathroom
The bathroom was also a very nice size with a large countertop area and sink. All of these also looked to be very new. There was no tub in the bathroom, but there was a very nice walk-in shower with a rain shower head and plenty of hot water and great pressure! The bathroom also included a large mirror, magnifying mirror, and bath products including bar soap, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. The products were of a very nice quality! Because of the current COVID situation, there was no daily housekeeping. However, it just took a call to get more towels or coffee or whatever was needed. And social distancing was very well adhered to all through the hotel and casino.
The room also had a nice sitting area with two comfortable chairs and a small table. There was also a work desk with an office chair, which worked well for me to catch up on work while away on my vacation. Other amenities included a 49″ TV, a mini refrigerator, a single-cup coffee maker with a supply of coffee, iron and ironing board, and plenty of plug-ins and USB outlets. The in-room safe was large enough for my laptop, which is always a plus. And there was even an Amazon Echo equipped with Alexa. I did not try this, so I can’t report on how well it worked.
Room View
The choice of views with the Luxe room is either a mountain view or a Fremont Street view. I had a mountain view which also included a view of the pool and pickleball courts. I am not familiar with pickleball, but I hear it is all the rage currently, and there were people playing on the courts on Saturday. I appreciated the mountain view as I did not get any of the Fremont Street noise.
Entertainment Options
The casino at the Plaza was a very nice size and had many of the most current slot machines, video poker machines, and table games. It was a very fun atmosphere to play in, and the in-house music was just the kind of music I would choose, although a little loud at times for me. Bingo is also very popular at the Plaza and they have a 280-seat room (less with social distancing) set up with top of the line electronic Bingo machines, or you could use the original paper Bingo sheets if you chose to. They have six daily Bingo sessions and Super Bingo throughout the year. It’s definitely the place to be if you like bingo!
Many Restaurant Choices
The food and restaurant choices were also very nice at the Plaza. If you like pizza you have to try their in-house pizza place, Pop Up Pizza. Everything there is homemade and delicious! Hash House A Go Go for anything from breakfast through dinner but do check the hours ahead of time. Things are subject to change due to social distancing. You can also find a food court with McDonald’s, Subway, and other options. And on the second floor of the hotel, Oscars Steakhouse where you will find some of the best steaks and cocktails downtown!
“Located inside the Plaza’s iconic glass dome, Oscar’s pays homage to the Vegas of yesteryear and has become a must-visit, only-in-Vegas dining destination thanks to its classic ambiance, memorabilia displays, handcrafted cocktails, including the former mayor’s signature martini, and a delicious menu of perfectly aged steaks, fresh seafood and made from scratch sides.”

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Plaza and I plan to stay there again in the future!
